What it is
Veneers are thin porcelain or composite shells bonded to the front of teeth. Porcelain veneers usually require removing some enamel, which cannot be undone. Crowns are different: they cover the whole tooth and need more reduction.
How many trips to expect
Veneers can often be done in one trip of several days, depending on the lab. Be careful with plans that replace many healthy teeth with crowns when veneers were discussed.
Ask before you book
- Who will do the treatment, and what is their license number?
- What exactly is included in the price, and what could be added later?
- What happens, and who pays, if something needs to be redone?
- How will my dentist at home get the records, X-rays and material details?
- Are these veneers or crowns, and how much of each tooth will be removed?
- Can I see a mock-up of the result before any tooth is prepared?
